Blog Post 1: Photos

by: Marissa Cohen

Introduction

Hello! Welcome to my blog! My name is Marissa Cohen and this is my first ever blog post, courtesy of my college COM 1113 class. This first blog post focuses on establishing different camera angles and particularly focuses on composition and working the shot. I hope to improve throughout this class, and compiling the image of those final photos. I hope you enjoy!

Theme

The theme I have chosen is sunglasses. Sunglasses are a way to protect yourself from the brightness around you, and you can take them anywhere. They come in different cases, shapes, and colors but we all use them. For my theme, I have decided to take one of my favorite pairs to wear and see how I can manipulate the camera to show the different angles we discussed in class. I wanted to experiment with different areas so I chose to use both the sunglasses with and without the case.

Background

By having this image focus on the case, I was able to establish a shot that is clear and full of color at the same time. I like this shot because the image is able to provide a contrast of subject versus background and it's very prominent in the image. Taking this image was a way for me to try out different backgrounds until I ultimately ended up settling on this one.

Rule of Thirds

I wanted this particular image to follow the rule of thirds. Having the eyes picture this image as one following the rule of thirds helps to establish contrast and depth as well. This image allows balance to become prominent in the photo, which relaxes the eyes, making for a great photo.

Duality

Having this image follow the rules of duality and parallel itself allows for an identical photo on both sides. This placement is beneficial because it allows to establish the shot and the image itself.
